[What does Ohtori Academy and Aldrip have in common? Well.. Lot of things, actually. But for this instance it is that one can never be too sure where they find themselves at the end of the day.
Case in point! Juri has somehow found herself sitting behind at the judge's table along with a few others for the local cooking competition. How did this happen? Who even knows. Juri is not much of a cook herself, but at least thanks to her (moderate) wealth back at home she has experience with more exotic and uncommon foods around the world. So, guess that makes her at least somewhat eligible to talk about food?
Although, it truly seems that no prior experience will be able to prep her up for the next dish that is presented to her. At least if her co-judge's reaction is anything to go by. The person sitting next to Juri took one bite and immediately turned white, as if the color had been drained off their face. There is even some horrified retching sounds coming from them. Aww, poor guy.
Juri, however, is not in such hurry to experience apparent food poisoning and instead of just leans her upper body forward, placing her elbows on the table.]
Why don't you tell us more about the food you've prepared for us.
[ The moment Mitama found out there was a cooking contest that was a part of current festivities, she knew what she had to do. Normally, whenever she gets to cook for a party or anything of sort, Kamihama's magical girls refuse to eat it (save for Momoko, that poor kind soul), so she's excited to share her recent improvements (?) to some of her favorite recipes!
Blissfully oblivious to the other judge's reaction to the abomination she presented him with, the girl moves on to Juri, positive energy practically oozing from her. If nothing else, she's obviously enjoying this, even if she's not perfect at it. ]
Oh, I'm glad you asked~ First, we have a classic ─ an omurice! Is there any better combination than rice and egg? And the red sauce truly adds to both its look and taste!
[ Sure, it is an omurice... except it's full of egg shells, since Mitama never bothered to remove them... the rice is mixed with chicken meat that might be severely undercooked, and the sauce she mentioned? It's not ketchup... it's raspberry jam. ]
Hm. [Juri hums at her explanation, taking her fork to poke at the... 'food' in front of her. Calling it omurice is nothing short of an insult towards Japanese cuisine.]
I see. Tell me, why do you think this dish will stand out from the rest? What is the surprising element?
[ She lets out a small laugh, but she definitely means what she said, full of (completely misplaced) confidence in her ability to create what's truly outstanding dish. ]
But that aside, I like to experiment with less conventional ingredients and cooking methods! I'm often told my cooking skills are rather unique~
[ That's the exact wording they typically use, funnily enough. ]
Anyone can simply follow the recipe and recreate a decent dish, [ that's not accurate, since she absolutely CAN'T ] but it takes courage, intuition and imagination to take risks and improve upon it!
[ She's a better saleswoman than a cook, that's for sure. ]
[A sharp yet curious brow is raised at that declaration. Ok, Mitama, sure. You're hardly the first genki girl she's come across, so that behavior really just doesn't do much for her in regards of getting reaction.
But she sure knows how to pitch a deal, doesn't she? Oh, well, but so does Juri. Dealing with the student affairs and working as intermediary between two bodies in the school has taught her well.]
Well, then. [She nods and hands the fork to Mitama.] I'll allow you to have the honor, in that case. I want to hear your own evaluation first and give it a grade compared to your precious dishes.
[ Her response comes as a bit of a surprise; is this a common custom to ask the chief to try their own dish before the jury does? Mitama blinks in surprise, but it doesn't last long, as she has full confidence in her creation. ]
Why, don't mind if I do!
[ Without hesitation, the girl grabs a spoon and takes a bit of the dish to try. Unlike some other weaklings people, she shows no signs of disconcert as she chews and swallows the abomination of a dish, and in fact seems rather pleased with it. Once done, she claps her hands together in joy. ]
Mmm, exquisite~ The texture is especially nice, even better than I expected it to be...!
[And at times like these Juri can't help but look at the other girl and think what the hell is she seeing. Mitama somehow manages to give her massive heebee jeebies, the hair on the back of her neck standing up. In some, very distant way, she reminds Juri of certain Anthy Himemiya. A girl she would like to forget very much.
A n y w a y,]
Good that your own cooking is satisfactory for you. However, there is something I would like to point out regarding your philosophy.
[Crossing her arms, she leans back on her chair.]
You mentioned that just about 'anyone can simply follow a recipe to recreate a decent dish'. But that is where you are wrong. Following a recipe requires a reading comprehension, ability to think ahead not to mention to a skill to understand the vision of the original chef. It takes hard work to be able master even a simple dish -- which you have failed to do. I don't know if it's your arrogance or ignorance that has blinded you but the food you have served us is inedible and will be disqualified from the competition.
[ Oof. That is a harsh assessment, and although this isn't the first time she has heard a similar opinion, it still hurts. There aren't many things she takes personally these days and she will get over this soon enough, too, but for the time being, this might be one of the most difficult times she's faced while here in Aldrip.
Her usual playful attitude disappears for once, and the girl's expression shifts to disappointment. She really thought she had it this time! And although the other girl's words were quite damaging to her confidence, she's still not going to go down without a fight. ]
Aw, you can't say that! Not when you haven't even tried it yourself.
[ Surely, she can't just disqualify her based on the looks alone...? ]
I believe that the state of my co-judge will tell me enough.
[The poor dude is keeling over the table next to her! But fine, she picks up the knife from the table and begins to dissect the dish in front of her, cutting it and moving bits and pieces of it on the plate as if to inspect it.]
The chicken here seems to be still partly raw and you have dropped the eggshells into the food. And by neglecting to cook this thoroughly you are placing us at the risk of catching a salmonella.
It's highly irresponsible of you to serve us this health hazard.
[ Mitama blinks, looking over to the other member of the jury... his reaction is similar to how people react after eating her cooking, so she doesn't see it as anything out of the norm, even if she'd prefer they showed some more enthusiasm. ]
Oh, it can't be that bad...!
[ She even resisted the urge of adding paint to it to make the color more vivid this time! Which is a massive improvement that came at no small cost, if you ask her. She feels a little proud of that one, even if Juri continues to criticize her work. ]
But if you still have some reservations, I can offer you a dessert to try instead!
[ Yes, it's this abomination of a cheesecake. So that's where all the ketchup for the omurice went... but at least it seems properly baked and it's just the decorations that are unsettling...? ]

Juri just casts a cold, unimpressed look at the poor cake and then raises her gaze back up to Mitama.]
You can't believe we would accept anything from you after such poor display less than a minute ago?
